Emergency lacerations require immediate care to mitigate scarring. It is best to contact our office to help manage your laceration with tissue glue, sutures, or wound care. Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian is a specialist in laceration repair and offers expertise in scar management.
Typically, sutures are used to repair lacerations under tension. Some lacerations will require a layered closure approach that approximates the deep and superficial tissue. Additional use of tissue adhesive glue may be indicated to improve epithelial wound healing.

Tips to improve scarring after stitches:
Wound care is the first concern after you have undergone stitches in our plastic surgery office or at an urgent care facility. Emergency stitches may require one to two weeks of wound care, especially if there is associated abrasions to the skin or an open wound. Proper wound care includes maintenance of the sutures so that they are not exposed to excess tension, daily washing of the wound with soap and water, and application of either an antibiotic salve, burn salve, or ointment; and finally an appropriate wound dresssing made from a cotton blend. Dr. Karamanoukian can help you delineate the proper woundcare options after your stitches are placed. If you are looking for a second opinion, we are experts in managing sttiches placed by other surgeons.
